The ABC's of PIG® sorbent socks, pads and rolls
PIG® MRO Socks simplify emergency spill cleanup and can be used to Absorb, Block, and Confine many oils, coolants, solvents, and water. PIG® BLUE Absorbent Socks,
for example, uses a fine-grade vermiculite filler that offers superior diking to contain and confine spills while PIG® ORIGINAL Absorbent Socks,
one of our most popular and economical spill cleanup solutions, offers a corncob filler that pulls liquids from the floor for maximum absorbency and is ideal for routine maintenance schedules. No matter what your spill or cleanup application consists of, there’s a PIG® MRO Sorbent Sock that will Absorb, Block, or Confine it!
Sorbents produced from polypropylene, a micro-fiber material, are composed of millions of tiny pockets that are able to absorb liquid. New Pig treats our polypropylene sorbent products with special surfactants that allow them to absorb both petroleum-based and water-based liquids. Our sorbent socks are lightweight and easy to place and retrieve, and are adaptable to a variety of spill situations.
Maintaining your machines properly and having the right sorbent products means the difference between a clean and safe plant and a hazardous grease pit. The warning signs of inferior or improperly specified sorbents are not hard to miss. Oil deposits staining the concrete floor at the base of a machine or footprints across the plant floor from someone who didn't have enough sense to walk around the spill are two sure signs that your leak or spill is not being properly contained or cleaned.
Are the sorbent products you're using in your plant the right ones for the task at hand? Do you choose sorbent materials based on the kinds of fluids that leak and spill around a given machine? For more information on New Pig sorbent products, click here or call

Economically speaking, the lack of a proper sorbent to clean or contain accidental spills of fuels, lubricants, chemicals and coolants cost businesses, both small and large, billions of dollars each year in lost revenue as a result of fines and lost productivity. If you are the maintenance supervisor or safety and environmental manager for your plant, you're the one who will ultimately be accountable for those losses if the right products were not utilized!
Weighing the initial cost against results!
As many satisfied purchasing agents, safety directors, spill responders, and plant engineers will tell you, the initial cost of New Pig sorbents is paid back many times over due to the absorption capacity of our sorbent products as compared to that of other sorbents such as sand or clay. Additionally, some polypropylene sorbents are dust free and contain no abrasive granules, as is found in clay sorbents, that can damage expensive machinery, thus keeping production lines up and running and management as happy as a pig in.his sty at feeding time!
Choosing the right sorbent for your application
There are three common types of sorbents available: chemical sorbents, oil only sorbents and maintenance sorbents. Do you know which one is right for your application? For more information on choosing the right New Pig sorbent products,

New Pig Sorbent Pads and Rolls can be used indoors or out to absorb oil-based fluids, lubrication oil, grease, or chemical spills. They're also great for wiping down machines or performing scheduled maintenance. Got a big spill? Reach for Heavy-Weight Universal PIG® Mat Pads to catch leaks and overspray. New Pig Sorbent Pads are available in light-, medium- and heavy-duty varieties and can be furnished in a dispenser box or tablet pack.
PIG® MRO Socks are the Original Universal Absorbent Sock that started it all! With their polypropylene skin and ground corncob filler, PIG® ORIGINAL Sorbent Socks creates less dust than clay and are easier to use: Just put them down, let them absorb, and pick them up! Available in blue, gray, and a variety of sizes for every application.
PIG® HAZ-MAT Sorbent Socks are 3" in diameter and are designed to mold easily around a spill. PIG® HAZ-MAT Sorbent Socks utilize polypropylene filler that will absorb up to 2 gallons per sock and won't degrade upon contact with harsh or aggressive liquids. Designed to absorb most acids, bases and other oil- and water-based liquids.
Designed to contain and control petroleum-based fluids, PIG® Oil-Only Absorbent Booms are the best on the market for soaking up oil spills and not water! New Pig oil-only sorbents will absorb oil and petroleum-based liquids while repelling water. For non-flammable petroleum spills, use PIG® Oil-Only Mat Pads and Rolls,
available in white or brown and in a variety of sizes in light, medium, and heavy weight consistency.
Chemical or hazmat sorbents receive a special treatment that allows it to handle acids (including hydrofluoric acid) and most other hazardous fluids. Of particular note to safety directors, chemical sorbents are considered a safer choice because they resist reactions with most hazardous chemicals. Chemical sorbents will also absorb petroleum-based fluids, non-aggressive chemicals and aqueous-based solutions, thereby reducing the need to stock several different sorbent types for emergency response. For cleanup of acids, bases, unknown liquids, or any type of hazardous fluid cleanup, we recommend pink PIG® HAZ-MAT Mat Socks, Pads, and Rolls.
Their capacity for absorbing non-aggressive liquids makes maintenance sorbents ideal for plant maintenance applications. Non-aggressive liquids are categorized as those used in daily operations that do not require the use of personal protective equipment. Liquids in this category would include petroleum-based products, oils, coolants, cutting fluids, and aqueous-based liquids. PIG® MRO Loose
Absorbents are an ideal solution for spills and absorb up to three times that of clay-based products!
Today's demanding plant environments require the most advanced cleaning technology for maximum cleanliness and sorbency. PIG® Sorbent Wipers are furnished in a variety of styles to handle any task. PIG® Pillows, on the other hand, are perfect for small spaces and tight confines to absorb drips and leaks one drop at a time. Their tough, polypropylene cover resists tears, ruptures and rough handling, and their fast-wicking filler absorbs liquids the instant they hit the pillow! Also, their low ash content makes PIG® Pillows ideal for incineration.
